The course will cover a case from the day of criminal conviction, through the first right of appeal, ineffective assistance of counsel claims, claims of new evidence, writ of habeas corpus in death penalty and non-death penalty cases, and wrongful conviction litigation.

This course will focus on the methodology and practice of post-conviction criminal law, including state and federal court practice, remedies, and relief. The class will cover topics including a refresher on the criminal trial stage, including pretrial hearings, motions, and trial objections, for the purpose of preservation for appeal, conviction, sentencing, and then dive into the wide world of post-conviction litigation. Other topics throughout the course will include legal professional identity and practical skills necessary for criminal law practice.
